On August 16, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation released a notice on soliciting opinions on GB/T 29602 Quality Requirements for Solid Beverage (Draft for Approval) (hereinafter referred to as the Draft). In addition to the relevant provisions on labeling and identification in the product standards (GB 7101, GB/T 29602) implemented by solid beverages, the Announcement on Strengthening the Quality and Safety Supervision of Solid Beverages (hereinafter referred to as the Announcement) issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation also stipulates the labeling and identification of solid beverages. Antion sorted out the labeling and identification of solid beverages in combination with the above regulations for your reference.

01 Product name

Compared with the Announcement, the Draft newly added that "names that are easily confused with drug names, such as granules, doses and powders, should not be used", and supplemented the explanations for terms such as "approved special food names" and "same display panel".

02 Warning information

Compared with the Announcement, the Draft deleted the "powdered beverage for special uses", and listed the nutrient solid beverages and electrolyte solid beverages in powdered beverage for special uses separately; at the same time, the scope of "solid beverages with edible bacterial species added" was narrowed to "solid beverages with live lactic acid bacteria".

In addition, the Draft supplemented the height of the warning information text, clarified the warning information area, presentation form, etc. The height of the warning information text should be easy for consumers to identify and read. The warning information area includes the entire area of the warning information text and its background, and should be calculated according to the presentation form. The presentation form includes areas delineated by solid lines, dotted lines, etc., or special areas formed by color contrast, and the warning information text marked in the area.

03 Promotional materials

Compared with the announcement, the Draft clearly stipulated that products added ingredients included in the catalogue of health food raw materials should not make corresponding health function claims.

04 Special requirements for labeling of solid beverages added edible bacterial species

The Draft stipulated that "live bacteria type lactic acid bacteria solid beverages should indicate the number of live lactic acid bacteria", which is consistent with the provision in GB 7101.

05 Consumption method

Compared with the current version, the Draft supplemented the labeling of consumption methods of solid beverages. "Indicating the preparation or brewing method of the product" in the current version was adjusted to "solid beverages directly provided to consumers should indicate the preparation (brewing) ratio or method of the product".

06 Prohibited content

Compared with the current version, the Draft clearly stipulated that the word "meal replacement" should not be indicated on product label.

07 Other contents

Compared with the current version, the Draft modified and supplemented the labeling and indication of powdered fruit/vegetable beverage, powdered protein beverage, powdered tea beverage, powdered fruit tea beverage and powdered coffee beverage.

Currently, the standard is being solicited opinions, and the deadline for feedback is September 16, 2024. Relevant enterprises can raise their opinions if they have any.
