Antion Assisted MicroCyto in D-allulose as Novel Food Ingredient

On July 2, 2025, the National Health Commission issued the Announcement No.4 of 2025 on 20 Kinds of "Three New" Foods including D-allulose, and MicroCyto has become the first D-allulose manufacturer in China to be approved for listing.

The D-allulose produced by direct fermentation of Escherichia coli AS10 strain approved this time is also the first novel food ingredient of synthetic biology origin officially announced and approved in China.

As the full-process declaration agency for D-allulose, Antion, through close cooperation with MicroCyto, efficiently completed the entire chain of declaration work including project evaluation, material writing and testing. Since the National Health Commission opened the application channel for novel food ingredients derived from synthetic biology in September 2024, the D-allulose project was successfully approved in less than a year.

MicroCyto has globally pioneered the "one-step fermentation biosynthesis process", starting from glucose/sucrose and directly producing allulose through fermentation. Compared with the traditional two-enzyme isomerization method, it simplified the process, improved the taste and stability of the product. The administrative license approved by the National Health Commission this time is precisely based on this original process. The advanced technology and process not only improved the product quality but also significantly reduced the production cost. The successful development of AS10 will drive engineered strains into a true era of industrial adaptation, and at the same time lay the foundation for allulose to become a widely used bulk healthy sugar.

With professional technical capabilities and rich declaration experience, Antion can provide clients with full-process agency declaration services for "three new" foods, covering from project evaluation, material compilation, testing to declaration submission, supplementation and communication, help enterprises choose appropriate declaration directions, improve declaration efficiency, reduce human and capital costs, and lower declaration risks. If you are interested in applying for "three new" foods, please feel free to contact us.
