The "0 addition" label, which was once popular in the beverage industry, will no longer be allowed. After the issuance of the newly revised GB 7718-2025 National Food Safety Standard General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods, prepackaged foods are not permitted to use terms such as "no addition" or "zero addition" to emphasize food ingredients.

After the new regulations were issued, some beverage brands need to start making modifications to their packages. According to the new regulations, after a two-year transition period, they are no longer allowed to use packages with such labels.

Experts say that the 0 sugar statement in the beverage industry will not be affected. Fat and sugar belong to nutritional components, which are clearly stipulated in GB 28050-2025 National Food Safety Standard General Rules for the Nutrition Labeling of Prepackaged Foods. Different foods can use content claims based on the characteristics of nutrient content, such as low fat, low sugar and sugar free.

At present, for enterprises aiming at the health-oriented market, "0 sugar" remains the main focus. Products like the sparkling water from Yuanqi Forest and the sugar-free cola from Coca-Cola can be marked as "0 sugar" because they use sugar substitute. However, it is worth noting that some businesses subtly replaced the concept of "0 sugar" with "0 sucrose". In reality, "0 sucrose" merely indicates that no sucrose is added, but it does not mean that the product is free of other sugars such as glucose, maltose and fructose. "0 sugar" and "0 sucrose" represent different sugar components and sugar contents, and there is a fundamental difference between them.

Some insiders say that relevant regulations do not prohibit the labeling of "0 sugar, 0 fat, 0 calorie". In fact, the standard mainly prohibit "0" that may cause misguidance such as food additives, pesticide residues and heavy metals. There is no impact on "0" with other regulations. For instance, nutrition claims that have already been stipulated by national standards, such as 0 sugar, 0 fat, 0 energy and 0 lactose, etc., can be used normally.

Sugar-free beverages remain the development direction of the industry. More and more beverage industry enterprises are deeply integrating the concept of health into product research and development and production, constantly launching innovative beverages that are low in sugar, sugar-free, rich in vitamins, minerals and various beneficial components.
