CFSA| Soliciting Opinions on 3 New Varieties of Food Additives

On January 3, 2025, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) opened new food additives for public feedback. This includes one new variety of food additive  Enzymatically produced steviol glycosides, one new variety of enzyme preparation for food industry — Glucoamylase and one processing aid for food industry with the scope of use expanded — chitosan. Any comments can be submitted before February 2, 2025. Details are as follows:

One new variety of food additive

Chinese name: 甜菊糖苷(酶转化法)

English name: Enzymatically produced steviol glycosides

Function classification: Sweetener

Quality specification requirement

The quality specification requirements of the substance should be implemented in accordance with the NHC Announcement No. 2 of 2024 [except for Appendix A Information on Production bacteria for Enzymatically Produced Steviol Glycosides], and the production bacteria information of the new variety of food additive is shown in the table below.

a refers to the donor of sucrose synthetase

b refers to the donor of β-1,3-glycosyltransferase

c refers to the donor of β-1,2-glycosyltransferase

The quality specification requirements for enzyme preparations for food industry should comply with the provisions of the National Food Safety Standard Food Additives Enzyme Preparations for Food Industry (GB 1886.174).

One processing aid for food industry with the scope of use expanded
