Lists of Species that Can be Used in Food&Infants Food Updated

On August 25, 2022, the National Health Commission issued an announcement in which the List of Species that Can be Used in Food and the List of Species that Can be Used in Infants and Young Children Food were updated. The two Lists were updated in combination with international adjustments to the classification and naming of bacterial species (strains). The 16 species that can be used in food and 8 species that can be used in infant and young children food were supplemented to the corresponding lists; a 2-year transition period is set for the classification and naming adjustment of species in the Lists. The details are as follows:

*Note: 1. The species traditionally used in food production and processing are allowed to continue to be used. Those are not in the List or new species should be implemented in accordance with the Measures for the Administration of the Safety Review of Novel Food Ingredients.

2. The species that can be used in infants and young children food should be implemented in accordance with the List of Species that Can be Used in Infants and Young Children Food.

3. The scope of use of the species announced and supplemented to the List of Species that Can be Used in Food after 2010 should conform to the contents of the original announcement.
