On July 30, 2024, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of noncompliant food products in June 2024. A total of 468 batches of imported food from 44 countries/regions were rejected.

Most non-compliant imported food in June came from the U.S. (24.4%, mostly alcohol), followed by Ecuador (12.2%, all aquatic products) and Macao, China (10.5%, all coffee products). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:

l Unqualified labeling (28.0%)

l Unqualified packaging (22.9%)

l Non-compliance with food national standards (20.3%)

l Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (14.5%)

l Lack of required documents or evidential materials (10.1%)

1.Dairy product

In June, China customs rejected 34 batches of dairy products. This included one batch of skimmed milk powder from the Netherlands due to a discrepancy between the cargo and its certificate. The remaining 33 batches were cheese products: two from Italy, three from France, and 31 from the UK. Most of the cheese products were rejected due to unqualified labeling, while two batches were rejected for excessive levels of E. coli contamination.

2.Coffee product

A total of 49 batches of coffee bean and coffee powder products from Macao, China, failed customs clearance due to unqualified labeling.

3.Alcohol product

126 batches of alcohol products were rejected, mostly are beer and wine products. The rejections included 107 batches from the U.S., nine from Germany, four from Japan, three from France, and one each from Italy, Mexico, and Romania. The primary reasons for rejection were unqualified labeling and discrepancies between the cargo and their certificates.
