The 2024 National Food Safety Publicity Week was held in Beijing on September 25, sponsored by 28 departments including the Food Safety Office of the State Council, the Central Spiritual Civilization Construction Office, the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission and the Economic Daily, hosted by China Economy. Lv Weihong, member of the Party Committee and director of the Political Department of the General Administration of China Customs, released the relevant situation of Customs import food safety supervision from January to August this year.

Lv Weihong said that the Customs promotes the "gateway protection" action of imported food, builds three lines of defense overseas, at ports and domestic, and strengthens the management of the three stages before, during and after the incident, effectively guaranteeing the safety of imported food.

First, strengthened source control. Standardized the implementation of access management, completed the access of 75 kinds of foods and edible agricultural products from 48 countries (regions).

Secondly, strictly supervised ports. Released 4,214 notifications of unqualified imported edible agricultural products, returned and destroyed 2,564 batches of unqualified foods, and implemented quantitative and graded management of 4,419 food production and operation enterprises at ports. Thirdly, strengthened follow-up inspections. 1,749 cases of administrative punishment with a value of 24.179 million Yuan were investigated and dealt with, and 479 tax-related food smuggling cases with a value of 7.35 billion Yuan were investigated.
