As summer approaches, frozen drinks such as ice cream and popsicles enter the peak consumption season. Recently, the market supervision department has continuously increased the intensity of daily supervision, sampling and monitoring of frozen drinks.

Since the beginning of this year, the market supervision departments across the country have carried out 3,605 batches of supervision and sampling inspections on 29 items in 4 categories, namely microorganisms, quality indicators, food additives and heavy metals, of frozen drinks such as ice cream and popsicles. 18 batches of unqualified samples were detected, with an unqualified rate of 0.499%. The unqualified items are mainly coliforms and total plate count. The overall food safety situation of frozen drinks is stable and improving.

In addition, in view of potential risks of frozen drinks in summer, such as excessive microorganisms, use of food additives beyond limits and non-standard labeling, the State Administration for Market Regulation has guided local market supervision departments to continuously strengthen the daily supervision of the production and operation of frozen drinks, urged manufacturers and operators of frozen drinks to fulfill their main responsibilities for food safety. For unqualified food detected in sampling inspections, relevant food manufacturers and operators should be immediately urged to take measures such as removing from shelves, sealing up and recalling to promptly control product risks; For illegal and irregular issues related to frozen drinks discovered in daily supervision, unannounced inspections, etc., strict crackdowns should be carried out in accordance with laws to effectively maintain market order.
