On May 22, 2025, the General Administration of China Customs (GACC) published the Information on Food Not Allowed to Enter China in April 2025. A total of 325 batches of imported food from countries/regions were rejected.

Most non-compliant imported food in April came from Japan with 34 batches, followed by the United States with 33 batches. The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:

  • Unqualified labeling

  • Incompliance with food national standards

  • Discrepancy between cargo and certificate

  • Lack of required documents or evidential materials

  • Issues regarding overseas manufacturer registration

The unqualified food category includes beverages, biscuits and milk. The General Administration of China Customs stated that all these foods that were not allowed to enter China have been lawfully returned or destroyed.
