On February 19,2025,the GACC published the Information on Food Not Allowed to Enter China in January 2025. A total of 357 batches of imported food from 38 countries/regions were rejected.

Most non-compliant imported food came from the United States (23.2%,mostly alcohol beverage and health supplement),followed by Malaysia (10.1%,mostly edible bird's nest) and Philippines (6.2%,mostly grain products). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:

• Unqualified labeling (25.5%)

• Incompliance with food national standards (17.9%)

• Inconsistency between goods and certificate (15.7%)

• Lack of market access permits (8.9%)

• Issues with overseas manufacturer registration (6.2%)

In 2024,China's food import sector witnessed an unexpected contraction,with total import value declining by 8.1% year-on-year,halting its previous growth trajectory. More strikingly,the volume of imported food products rejected by Chinese customs surged by 78.1% over the same period,revealing a paradoxical dynamic in the nation's trade and regulatory landscape.
